XTB Demo Account: Unavailable for Pakistan Residents

XTB does not onboard clients from Pakistan, so its demo account cannot be opened by residents. Pakistani nationals are on XTB's restricted list, and no XTB entity holds a license from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). This page explains the situation, what it means for your search for a trading platform, and what to look for in an alternative.

XTB is a major European broker, founded in 2002 and listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2016 with over one million clients globally, but its services stop at Pakistan's border. This is not a judgment on the broker's quality, but a firm regulatory boundary.

The Regulatory Wall

XTB does not hold authorization from Pakistan's SECP. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) oversees foreign-exchange policy under the Foreign Exchange Manual (FERA 1947), while the SECP regulates capital markets and derivatives. Neither body issues licenses for local retail spot-forex or CFD brokers.

XTB has made a commercial decision not to serve the Pakistani market. The firm's own client acceptance list explicitly excludes Pakistan. For a Pakistani resident, attempting to register for a demo or live account would fail at the identity verification stage.

NOTE
The absence of local licensing does not make XTB an illegal or unregulated broker. It is a well-regulated international firm, but its regulatory coverage simply does not extend to Pakistan.

Why the Demo Matters

A demo account is typically the first step for any trader. It offers a risk-free environment to test strategies and learn the platform. For a broker like XTB, the demo would run on their proprietary xStation 5 platform, giving a feel for their tools and execution.

Globally, XTB offers this facility without a deposit. They also provide an Islamic swap-free account option, which many traders in Pakistan require. However, all of this is irrelevant when the account cannot be opened in the first place.

What You Would Miss

XTB's global offering includes commission-free forex and CFD trading with spreads on the Standard account, and a Pro account with tighter spreads plus a per-lot commission. The platform is xStation 5, which is known for speed and charting tools.

The Practical Reality

You cannot use XTB. There is no workaround through a local entity because none exists. Attempting to open an account via a VPN or using a foreign address would breach the broker's terms of service and could lead to frozen funds if discovered.

The regulatory structure in Pakistan, enforced by the SBP, does not permit margin-based currency trading within the country. This pushes residents toward offshore brokers regulated abroad, such as those under FCA or CySEC oversight.

HEADS UP
When choosing an offshore broker, fund the account through legitimate banking channels. Using Hawala/Hundi or unregulated platforms that bypass the banking system is illegal.

Finding an Alternative

Since XTB is unavailable, you need to choose a different international broker. The criteria for selection remain the same: strong regulation, fund segregation, transparent costs, and a solid track record.

Look for a broker that

  • Explicitly accepts Pakistani residents
  • Holds oversight from FCA, CySEC, or ASIC
  • Offers Islamic swap-free accounts
  • Supports local funding rails like bank transfer, Easypaisa, or JazzCash

Verify independently

NOTE
Check the broker's license number with the regulator's public register, not just on the broker's page.

What to Check Before Opening an Account

Before you open any account, verify the broker's license number with the regulator. For a CySEC-regulated firm, check the CySEC public register. For FCA, use the Financial Services Register.

Also consider the tax implications. According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), profits from forex trading are generally taxed as income. You are taxed on worldwide income, and if your foreign income exceeds USD 10,000 in a tax year, you must file a Foreign Income and Assets Statement. Crypto gains are subject to a flat 15% CGT.

Questions

Does XTB have an Islamic account for Pakistani clients?

Globally, XTB offers a swap-free Islamic account. Because Pakistani residents are not accepted as clients, this option is not available locally.

Will I face tax on trading profits from an offshore account?

Yes. The FBR taxes residents on worldwide income. Trading profits are generally taxed as income, and you may need to file a Foreign Income and Assets Statement if your foreign income exceeds USD 10,000 or foreign assets exceed USD 100,000 in the tax year.

Can I open an XTB demo account from Pakistan?

No. XTB does not accept Pakistani residents and lists Pakistan as a restricted jurisdiction. Resident onboarding is unavailable. Attempting to register will not succeed.
